I purchased this lovely six inch wooden sculpture from Rotofugi Gallery back in the beginning of July. Thanks to Mr. Ketner and Mr. Rotofugi himself, Kirby Kerr, arrangements were made for me to get my hands on anything of my choice. Rather than opting for a painting, I bought this beautiful sculpture as I thought it was a perfect translation of Jeremiah's characters from 2D to 3D. It's as if it jumped right out of one of his paintings! it's absolutely beautiful and serene. I fell for it as soon as I saw it. The plan is to house her in a box frame next to my forthcoming Ketner painting. Until then, she sits happily in my Bertby cabinet amongst the vinyl toys and plush.
I uploaded this to Flickr and thought I'd share it with those of my Vox friends who are semi-voyeurs like me. I love to see photos of where people live. Their decor and collections reveal part of their personality. My decor is obviously that of colorful cuteness. Japanese pop art is a heavy influence to the kind of art and toys I collect. It makes me smile. Now post a photo of your desk or work space!

When I said, "My foot is slipping,"
your love, O LORD, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought joy to my soul. Psalm 94:18-19
Thank you Lord for giving me strength and reassurance.
I give all that I am to do Your will.
Show me the way.
i then showed my mom the two prints (she's also a fan of camille's work) and she fell in love with "royal disorder poisin party." so much so that friday afternoon she decided to buy it!! does my mom rock or what? i was stunned and excited and happy all at once. she got as giddy as i do when buying art. with a big smile on her face she said, "this is my first real art purchase!" yes it is! it makes me happy to know i've introduced her to the lowbrow art movement and that she has taken to it. i honestly didn't think she like anything beyond impressionism. but to my joy she finds it just as interesting and morbidly beautiful as i do. i love my mom!
it's been almost a week since i attended the most magically delicious show of the year. time has sure flown by! to be honest, i think it has taken me this long to recover from the excitement of it all. no exaggeration. finally meeting TADO (mike + katie) in the flesh after having only talked with them via email for months, was really a great moment. it's always exciting meeting people you admire and respect and/or haven't seen in a long time. in my case, it was the former though it felt like the latter. not only did i meet two of the most brilliant illustrative artists in the world today, but i finally got a chance to meet two people who are dear to me and whom i regard as close friends. they couldn't have been nicer and are all-around happy, kind-hearted individuals. it felt like i had been reunited with long, lost friends!
one proof of their kindness is the v.i.p. pass they made exclusively for me. weeks ago they mentioned they were going to try to make arrangements for me to get into the show before the rest of the crowd. this news couldn't have been more ideal nor more appreciated by me. not only is kidrobot one of the smallest shops on the promenade, but it's located about an hour away from me (excluding rush hour traffic). being that this was on a weeknight, i wouldn't have arrived in time to get a good spot in line. the thought of potentially being the hundredth person in line gave me nightmares. no joke. i honestly dreamt flippers bought up all the artwork and put them all on ebay the next day with a 110% markup, ha. paranoid? maybe. however, to my excitement and relief, mike + katie came through for me with flying colors! when my mom, kristin, and i arrived, the doors were unlocked and we were let in - an hour early! all the KR employees already knew who we were. they were expecting us and gave us the green light to go picture crazy and buy anything we wanted. i never felt so special!
after about ten minutes of looking at all the show pieces (canvases, prints, custom munnys and 20" dunnys) mike + katie arrived. they are the cutest couple ever! their personalities and british accents melted me. they're the kind of people who have a really easy way about them (not that easy, ha) and make you feel as if you've always known them. we chatted about this and that while they got down on their stomaches (along with dan of kozydan - another of my favorite artists!) and "pimped my ride!" all three, armed with paint markers, adorned my chair with wonderful doodles. words cannot describe how happy this made made me. that they would take the time to tag up my chair meant the world to me. i find myself going into my mom's room just to look at my chair in her mirrored sliding closet doors. they're work makes me smile like no other. dan's bunnyfish rocks, too!
after the "pimp my ride" session was over, i made my way to the counter and purchased a few choice items for myself and four friends - two who live out of state and two who live in the UK. i lost my mind and splurged on the "lovestools" canvas while my friend, anna, opted for the pink custom munny (which arrived today and will be sent off to glasgow soon!). mazzy and kristin purchased "lovestools" prints (woo hoo!) and i picked up two love dunnys for kara and whitney. it was quite and expensive day! i couldn't imagine my money going to two more deserving people though.
i've uploaded more photos of the event here. i'm new to flickr and haven't figured out how to put my photos in order yet (frustrating!), so please forgive their disorderly fashion. all available pieces will be available thru kidrobot's online store soon. ^_^
i've been counting down the days to TADO's first l.a. show for weeks and can't believe it starts in less than 24 hours. no other analogy describes my excitement better than the excitement a child feels the night before christmas. i am literally giddy with excitement and anticipation. i haven't felt this way since the radiohead show a few months ago. i honestly think i might suffer from sensory overload. not only will kidrobot be filled with various TADO art ranging from canvases, prints, custom vinyl, and random doodles, but the duo themselves will be there along with chris lee (whom i finally get to harass in person, yay!), kozydan (another beloved artist i talk to but have yet to actually "meet"), huck gee (great artist + british transplant who sucessfully avoided deportation .. hooray!), and the toy baroness herself, nichole. so many great people and wonderful art contained in a single space. tomorrow promises to be great night. definitely one for the memory bank.
sadly, my compadres (the two other TADO-ites) live in the U.K. perhaps it's just as well as the three of us together my be too overwhelming for mike + katie. we'd unintentionally (or intentionally) hog them to ourselves by asking them to doodle on everything in site (perhaps even body parts .. ha). at least i'll be able to pick up a few choice show pieces for them. that should help make them feel not so left out.
kristin is flying in tonight. i'm happy she'll be going with me tomorrow night. though she's not an art nerd like me and isn't too familiar with TADO's work, she's liked what she's seen so far and is starting to show more interest in art whereas before she was indifferent to it. it makes me happy to know she's taking interest in my favorite artists. she'll be one more person i can nerd out and obsess over art with. she also happens to be good with a camera and will, therefore, be my show photographer though she doesn't know it yet. i certainly wouldn't be able to give a proper review without decent shots.
on a totally unrelated note: i really like pepperjack cheese.
