i still can't believe she's mine. after educating myself on blythe history, various face molds, etc. (with the help of two wonderful, patient friends lauren and tiffany .. thank you!!), i was determined that my first BL girl would be a first edition matte hollywood blythe. there was just something about her pale skin and short, curly platinum hair that just melted my heart. i would obsessively go to TIB's blythe-o-pedia and admire photos of other HW's knowing that one day i'd have one of my own. little did i know it wasn't going to be an easy process.
in early november 2006, i found what i thought was my dream HW on ebay. while still being new to collecting blythe, i wasn't familiar enough with BL's to decipher the first edition HW's from the other three releases. i took the ebay seller's word that the HW he was selling was indeed a matte face first edition as he listed her as. i did see what appeared to be a slight glare on her face (which should've been a red flag), but my untrained eye figured it was caused by the plastic window on the blythe box and not the doll itself. after bidding and winning, i excitedly showed lauren the photos of the girl i had just won. that's where the excitement ended. it was then i found out the blythe i had just won wasn't a first edition as listed, but rather a second edition FAO semi-shiny HW. i was crushed. i then proceeded to ask other's opinions and every feedback i received was that she was indeed a second edition girl. sadness turned to anger as i couldn't believe how dishonest people can be. i determined right then and there that i was not going to be taken advantage of.
when i received the HW, she arrived in a box that had be wrapped in super thin saran wrap type of plastic which was then (badly) taped together. this blythe was listed as NRFB, mind you (ha!). from what i could tell, the seller had placed a second edition HW into a first edition box. i was so upset i couldn't bare to look at the blythe. as pretty as she was, she wasn't what i paid for.
i immediately contacted the seller requesting a full refund to which i received no response whatsoever. after a week of emails and receiving no replies, i then filed a paypal dispute claim against the seller. after explaining the situation via paypal website, a few phone calls, and faxing a letter from a reputable person within the blythe world (tiff is my hero!), paypal decided the case in my favor (thank you, Lord!). in mid december i received a full refund minus the out of pocket expense it cost me to send the doll back to hong kong. bad dolly deals are a nightmare and i hope this was the first and last one i ever have to deal with.
fast forward to the beginning of this month. while browsing the buy + sell forum at TIB, i came across a board member selling her entire blythe collection. as i was scrolling through her post hoping to see a matte HW for sale, i found none. but something urged me to continue reading the next three pages. it was in these pages i found that she had later added her NRFB matte HW to the list of dollies for sale. without hesitation i contacted her. i requested photos, asked tons of question, verified from others that she was indeed a matte HW, and when everything was a go i purchased her!
she arrived a week later and i couldn't be happier. her poor curls are a bit flat in the back from being in her box for six years, but that can be fixed with a few curlers and hot water. though her hair isn't perfect, i couldn't resist taking photos of her in her new squeaky monkey pink goldilocks dress with red + white striped stockings. the dress looks like it was made for her! Eeva absolutely loves it and i think the camera loves Eeva. talk about photogenic! she worked the camera today! ^_^
